What’s New with AWS – Week of October 15, 2018

In this episode of What’s New with AWS, AWS chief evangelist Jeff Barr provides an overview of the updates relating to Amazon Lightsail, Lambda and Deep Learning AMI.

AWS Lightsail

Updated to incorporate managed databases, it’s now easier to create a relational database. Currently supports MySQL, and PostgreSQL is in the pipeline.

Has two improvements, the first is that AWS has tripled the maximum run time for Lambda functions from 5 mins, to 15 mins which provides new opportunities for server less use cases. The second is that AWS has added SLA (Service Level Agreement) for 99.95% availability.

Deep Learning AMI

Updated for C5 and P3 instances. The C5 updates makes it 11 times faster.
